Perfume for women or for men? For both, of course!

This is the big question in perfumery: do perfumes have a sex? We are tempted to answer: you know that girls are born in roses, and boys in cabbage... Well, feminine perfumes are born in flowers, and masculine perfumes in the woods! Moreover, at Sephora at Sephora, they are well arranged, girls on one side and boys on the other...

More seriously: a feminine or masculine perfume is mostly a matter of marketing.

"Smells like a man around here"

For instance, floral fragrances are traditionally rather feminine (at least in the West; in the Middle East, on the contrary, rose is for instance widely used in men's fragrances).

And have you heard of "Fougère" perfumes? Fougère" are typically the male olfactory family. And don't imagine for a second that they smell like fern - which, by the way, doesn't smell like much. The story is a bit more subtle than that...

At the end of the 19th century, a talented Monsieur Houbigant created a men's fragrance he named Fougère Royale. This fragrance, combining lavender, geranium, patchouli and oakmoss for the first time, was very recognizable, very new - revolutionary even (and we like that at Bastille).

Since then, this accord has become a staple of men's fragrance. When you smell it, you smell a man! And it's not complicated: even today, 50% of so-called men's fragrances are "Fougère".

And at Bastille ?

That's all very well, but it's a bit simplistic. At Bastille, we've decided to break away from the rules, for maximum originality. Did you think that Bataille only appeals to men? Wrong, daring women love the strong character of this woody fragrance, with notes of patchouli and pink pepper. And Un Deux Trois Soleilour gourmand oriental with almond, melted more than one woman's heart. In short, our fragrances are genderless... Or rather: yours

And remember, each fragrance will react specifically with your skin, creating a unique olfactory alchemy. So forget the marketing labels and rest assured: you are unique, and you can freely choose the fragrance you like!
